We are Velan Studios, an independent game developer with a passion for the unconventional, and we are looking for Tech Artists to intern with us. Our curiosity drives us and we have one requirement for our applicants: You must be deeply curious about something, and have some evidence of that curiosity. We are looking for interns that demonstrate a pattern of persistent and self-motivated exploration, specifically in one or more of these specific sub-sets of the Tech Art sphere:
- Shaders
- Cinematics (pipeline, workflow)
- Lighting and rendering tech (lens flares, light baking, etc.)
- Environmental Tech Art
- VFX adjacent things (smoke/fluid simulation, animated shaders, etc.)
As an intern you can expect to use your aesthetic and technical skills to work on real code and assets for real products as part of Velan's Tech Art team. Internships and co-op experiences typically range from 3 to 6 months in length, 40 hours a week. (This is not a hard and fast rule, and we are happy to consider exceptions.) All internship are onsite at our studio in Troy, NY. All internships are paid ($25/hour).
We use a collaborative, cross-discipline, and iterative development process. We work on constrained hardware (CPU, GPU, memory) and with hard performance targets (60Hz refresh rate). Beyond that, the problem domain is very broad.
